A brief description of clash detection process in Navisworks
Clash Detection Services process and coordination services are one of the most important preconstruction services that are executed for the purpose of seamless construction. Navisworks is considered as one of the best-suited software for performing these services since it has a huge potential to import different kinds of file formats in it. That means it can analyze and review all kinds of models that are developed by using CAD and BIM applications.
In the pre-construction stage, multidiscipline building models are developed by architects and engineers with the assistance of Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP Services. Once these models are successfully developed, clash detection and BIM Coordination services are executed for them so that they can be coordinated together.
Clash detection process in Navisworks
- The process starts with exporting Revit files into Navisworks and saving them into it.
- Once all the files are imported in Navisworks, double-click on the saved file to open it in Navisworks and save the file as Navisworks File Set by clicking on ‘save as’ option.
- After all, the required objects are loaded in Navisworks, to perform clash detection, start by opening ‘Clash Detective’ tab. Clash Detective tab is located on the left side of the screen, now click on to ‘Select’ tab which is located within the clash detective tab.
- Now to perform clash test, Navisworks users must select objects from both left side and right side. For example, from the left side, he can select ‘column’ which can be checked for interference between ‘floor’ that can be selected from the right side. Once ‘column’ and ‘floor’ are selected for interference checking, click on to ‘start’ button to run clash detective.

- To resolve the clashes found during clash detection, one should go back to Revit file and provide solutions for them.
