Revit is equipped with distinctive tools that assist its users in revision tracking. Revision tracking tools are available in different Revit discipline such as Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP and hence users of all these software can easily identify changes made by them in their Revit model.

For tracking revisions, Revit users or BIM modelers can develop a series or pattern of revisions. Revision clouds can also be drawn by Revit users around the element wherein changes have been made. Revision tags can also be used by users for annotating revision clouds. This eventually assists in displaying the revisions in schedules that generally reflect in project sheet.

Revision tracking process in Revit

The first step that is generally taken by Revit users for
tracking the revisions is to create a revision table. And Revit has
specific tools for this.

So Revit users are required to go to
‘Manage ribbon’ then to ‘Project setting panel’ and from there they
should select ‘Settings’ and finally ‘Sheet Issues/Revisions.’

Once
‘Sheet Issues/Revisions’ option is selected by Revit users they are
then required to select a method that they will be using for tacking
revisions.

Revit provides the option of two different methods for this purpose which can be selected from ‘Revisions dialog.’

The
two different methods that are available for Revit users for revision
tracking are ‘By Project’ method and ‘By sheet’ method.

If ‘By
project’ method is selected by Revit users then all the revisions made
by them in the project will be numbered as per their sequence in
Revisions dialog.

Or else if ‘By Sheet’ method is selected by
Revit users revision clouds are numbered according to the sequence of
rest of the clouds in a sheet.

So in this way by optimizing ‘By project’ method and ‘By sheet’
method Revit users can successfully perform revision tracking in Revit
for the project in question.

For gaining clarity on project development many times Revit users have to track the revisions made by them in the current Revit project.
